The Sociolinguistics of Iraqi Women: A New Perspective

The influence of gender on language preferences has been a major subject investigation in modern sociolinguistic research. Previous studies show that social norms, level education, economic status, and classifications roles have identified as some the key factors influencing different linguistic choices between female male Iraqi Arabic speakers. findings previous indicated Iraq is male-dominated society. And women are denied most socio-economic privileges accessible to men, which significantly influenced their choices. This investigation, therefore, evaluates what extent males/females’ speech Nasiriya City, south Iraq. It aims present characteristics based 16 hours voice recorded divided into three group situations. A random sampling procedure applied this study, where 235 speakers from University Thi Qar involved. collected 134 101 indicate young aged 18 30-year-old leading patterns variation change towards prestigious dialect choice Baghdadi variants.
